Messina, the swimming champion Walter D’Angelo will try the world record: seven consecutive crossings of the Strait

The swimmer Walter D’Angelo will once again challenge the currents of the Strait of Messina. The champion aims to beat the record he made in August 2013, when he had traveled the trafficking of the Strait of Messina six times by swimming for 25 kilometers in 7 hours and 35 minutes. The recordman boasts 10 gold at the World Cup and 2 at the European Championships and has 3 world records. This year there will be seven, and no more, the crossings from the Sicilian to the Calabrian bank and vice versa. Accompanied by the expert boatman Giovanni Fidente, D’Angelo will challenge the pitfalls of the Strait of Messina tomorrow.

«It is a world record – he said – that involves grueling training. I feel strong as in 2013, even if I am not swimming against the current but in the pool. He plays a lot of mental role, which is very different that of sprinters. The company is not from everyone, lasts hours and leading it it becomes alienating: a great mental force is needed, such as to make monotonous movements withstand and I, in this, are strong ».
