He thought he could get away with it but was caught in the act of committing a crime in Messina after abandoning two bags of rubbish along Viale Aranci, on the corner with Viale Giostra. The man who was in his car was stopped, identified and reported to the judicial authorities by the environmental team of the municipal police coordinated by commander Giovanni Giardina with the operational support of inspector Cosimo Petitto. The officers were stationed for some targeted checks, as part of the strategy implemented by the municipal administration to combat abandonments by identifying those responsible through the use of camera traps, checks on the territory and targeted stakeouts as in this case. «The reclamations – recalls Messinaservizi – risk being frustrated by those who continue to abandon waste. For this reason it is important to act on two fronts, the removal of abandoned waste and checks by the municipal police to trace the authors. We remind you that abandoning waste is a crime that involves heavy fines from 1,500 to 18 thousand euros and the suspension of your driving license if using a motor vehicle.”
