What does it provide and, at this point, what will continue to include the Ponte project, with the “corollary” of the RFI and Italferr project, on the railway front? We need to make order and a summary. The definitive project of the Strait of Messina, the one who obtained the green light of the Cipess and which now awaits the “stamping” of the Court of Auditors, stopped at the exit from the so -called Santa Cecilia Gallery, the last stretch of the railway route that will start from the bridge itself, will cross the city under the ground, like a subway, touching the stops Papardo, Annunziata and Europe, and will definitively see the light, in fact.
Here the skills of the “Messina Strait” stop and those of RFI and Italferr begin, who at the end of July have deposited to the Ministry of the Environment, for the evaluation of incidence, the documents of the preliminary project that establishes how the tracks from the bridge will connect to the existing railway line: both in the direction of Messina, reaching the central station, and in the direction of Catania.
One of the elements that, at the moment, do not seem to be questioned and that “dismantle” a thesis that had been supported so far is that the central station will remain there where it is now and, therefore, will not be transferred to the south area. The only real novelty, from this point of view, is that the now useless bundles of sea side tracks will be eliminated, from the Santa Cecilia area to the Maritime, freeing other spaces.
