Matteo Berrettini debuts with a victory at the Miami Open and gets through to the third round by beating Alexander Bublik with a double 6-4. For the Roman tennis player, who in Florida defends the quarter-finals reached last year, this is the first success against a player in the Top 20 since Monte-Carlo 2025.

Berrettini smiles again

The match lasted an hour and 28 minutes and gave Berrettini a significant result also for another reason: Bublik in fact suffered his first defeat of the season in a debut match. The blue thus reaches the third round of the Miami tournament, giving continuity to his path in an event in which he is called to confirm the good result obtained twelve months ago.

Alcaraz ahead, Cobolli and Arnaldi out

Carlos Alcaraz also goes through, beating the Brazilian Joao Fonseca in straight sets. The Spaniard prevails with a double 6-4 and enters the third round of the Masters 1000 in Miami.

However, a bitter debut for Flavio Cobolli and Matteo Arnaldi. Cobolli surrendered to the Belgian Raphael Collignon with a score of 7-5, 6-3, while Arnaldi was eliminated by the Kazakh Alexander Shevchenko at the end of a more competitive match, which ended at 6-7, 7-6, 6-2.
