About 10 days before the October 7, 2023 attack, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was personally warned by Emirati leader Mohammed bin Zayed that Hamas was planning a major offensive against the Jewish state, but he did not inform Israeli security leaders and did nothing with the information. This is what Haaretz revealed, referring to the extensive investigations of two journalists, Shlomi Eldarand and Ruth Yuval, for a new book which cites dozens of interviews with sources, including senior officials in Israel and around the world.
The book says three senior foreign officials were briefed on the contents of the 45-minute phone call in late September and an MbZ adviser is quoted as having direct knowledge of the conversation.
After the revelations, opposition leaders are working on a joint statement of condemnation. The promoter, Yedioth Ahronoth reports, is the leader of the Democrats, Yair Golan. “We must all unite in a joint statement to the citizens of Israel and say clearly: Netanyahu is not legitimate, we must not sit with him and we must not allow him to form a government. This man is dangerous to the security of Israel”, was the message he sent to the other leaders. According to what Yedioth Ahronoth learned, the favorite in the elections Gadi Eisenkot said he agreed and is awaiting a response from Naftali Bennett and Avigdor Liberman.
