The city council of Castrovillari approved, unanimously, a motion “to support the candidacy of Gaza’s children to the Nobel Peace Prize”. The initiative, promoted by the majority groups, “represents – explains in a note – a strong signal shared by the whole city assembly on the value of peace, solidarity and respect for human rights, with particular attention to the protection of childhood in the areas affected by conflicts”.
The approved act commits “the Mayor and the Municipal Council to publicly recognize the suffering lived by children in the tormented territories of the Gaza Strip, to affirm the universal right to peace and protection of childhood with determination, and to recall the international community to their political and moral responsibility towards the most fragile populations”.
The Municipality, with the approval of the motion, “also expresses its proximity to all the civil victims of armed conflicts, with a particular thought aimed at hostages and their families, who live daily the anguish of uncertainty and the violation of fundamental rights”. The motion provides, in a first phase, “concrete support for the proposal for the candidacy of the children of Gaza to the Nobel Peace Prize, as a symbolic and together deeply human gesture, capable of recalling global attention on the urgent need to build a future of justice and coexistence”.
In a second phase, it is expected, as part of the collaborative project “at school together”, “the start of awareness activities aimed at students, through the distribution of brochures on the Italian Constitution, with the aim of spreading among the young generations the founding principles of democracy, freedom and dignity of the person”.
