On the occasion of National Unity and Armed Forces Day, the Provincial Command of the Carabinieri of Crotone created a window display, inside a well-known commercial activity in the center of the Pythagorean capital, dedicated to the historical uniforms of the Carabinieri, thanks to the precious contribution of the Historical Museum of the Carabinieri.
The initiative was born with the aim of paying homage to the long tradition of service, dedication and sacrifice of the Italian Armed Forces, offering citizens a unique opportunity to admire up close authentic testimonies of the history and evolution of the Army uniform, a symbol of value, discipline and sense of State.
Among the pieces on display are two uniforms of great historical and symbolic value:
Trumpeter uniform (1833) – The result of a significant uniform reform which introduced the famous blue and red plume, which over time became the distinctive sign of the Army. For the trumpeters a variant in red and white was provided, which underlined their particular role. In that same period, the so-called “Great Uniform” was also established, destined to inspire the subsequent Great Special Uniform (GUS), still used in solemn ceremonies of the Carabinieri.
Campaign uniform (1848) – Worn by the Carabinieri who took part in the historic Charge of Pastrengo on 30 April 1848, a glorious episode of the Italian Wars of Independence. On that occasion, the blue cockade placed on the typical lamp, the characteristic headgear of the Carabinieri, was replaced with that of the national tricolor, a symbol of patriotism and unity.
The Historical Museum of the Carabinieri, established in 1925 and based in Rome, is the guardian of the centuries-old traditions of the Carabinieri. Its rooms contain memorabilia, documents, weapons, uniforms and works of art of great value. The Hall of Honor houses the disused drapes of the War Flag of the Carabinieri, granted to the Carabinieri Cadet Legion of Rome in 1894 and subsequently, in 1932, extended to the entire Army.
Thanks to the precious collaboration with the Historical Museum, the exhibition allows us to enhance the memory and legacy of the Carabinieri, offering citizens an opportunity for reflection and pride on the occasion of National Unity Day.
