The interventions aimed at reusing assets confiscated from crime amount to 4 million euros. The data emerged from a meeting held in the prefecture on the recovery and refunctionalization projects of confiscated assets in the province, financed with the resources managed by the Extraordinary Commissioner Paola Spena. Undersecretary of the Interior Wanda Ferro participated in the meeting remotely.
«The planned investments – explains a note – exceed 4 million euros and involve the municipalities of Cariati, Cassano allo Ionio, Domanico, Corigliano-Rossano and San Fili, for the creation of places of legality and inclusion. In particular, an anti-violence center is planned, a residential structure for people with disabilities without economic support, an intergenerational aggregation and inclusion center, a sports facility, a green space for minors and a residential structure for the reception of people with fragility. These projects are part of a broader action program, which sees 36 territorial administrations of the Calabria Region receiving 55 million euros for the implementation of 59 interventions”.
«Assets stolen from organized crime – stated Undersecretary Ferro – are thus brought back to life at the service of the community, to give concrete support to people experiencing situations of fragility and vulnerability. I thank the local authorities for their commitment which is also the result of a concrete action of support and accompaniment by the State, which sees in the valorisation of confiscated assets an extraordinary opportunity for the rebirth of the territories. Through the government’s commitment and full collaboration with local institutions, we are able to transform these assets from expressions of mafia power to symbols of redemption and hope.”
During the discussion, an update was also provided on the state of implementation of the interventions. During the work, we read, «wide collaboration was ensured by the commissioner structure and the administrations present, with a view to the rapid return of the affected assets to the communities. Present at the meeting, in addition to the extraordinary commissioner Spena, the prefect of Cosenza Rosa Maria Padovano, the mayors of the municipalities involved, the provincial leaders of the police forces and a representative of the National Agency for the administration and destination of assets seized and confiscated from organized crime”.
