After a restricted meeting on security to discuss military plans in Gaza, the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, is strongly inclined to occupy the strip, according to what was reported by an anonymous source aware of the details to the public broadcaster Kan.
Other Jewish news newspapers, including Ynet and I24 News, report similar news, all citing anonymous sources.
The meeting chief of the IDF, Eyal Zamir, and the defense minister Israel Katz participated in today’s meeting, together with the Minister for Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer.
The IDF currently control about 75% of the Gaza strip, but according to the new floor, the army should also occupy the remaining territory, bringing the entire Palestinian enclave under Israeli control. A source reported to Kan that the government is aware that the military campaign to obtain full control of Gaza will probably endanger the hostages left in the strip, of which it is believed that 20 are still alive. The issuer states that the IDFs and defense establishment remain opposed to the plan, in part because it puts the hostages at risk of being executed by their kidnappers if the troops approached the place where they are retained.
The prime minister’s office, in a short note after today’s restricted meeting, made it known that “the IDFs are ready to implement any decision made by the security cabinet”, which should soon meet to decide the plans.
