The checks on the Messina nightlife have intensified in the last week, with targeted checks ordered by the Messina police commissioner, Annino Gargano. Uniformed patrols and plainclothes units combed the places most frequented by young people, in the city and in the province, with the aim of ensuring safety and compliance with the rules.

Betting shops, bars and other youth meeting points were the subject of investigations, in which in some phases the crews of the PASI Division also took part, carrying out more in-depth administrative checks.

During an intervention in a room in the centre, the Flying Squad and PASI discovered the administration of alcohol to a minor: the owner was sanctioned and the girl returned to her parents.

In another operation, a woman was reported for resisting a public official and receiving stolen goods: she allegedly attempted to escape on a stolen motorcycle the previous evening. The vehicle was recovered and returned to the owner.

In the capital, over the course of seven days, the Police checked 1,608 people and 637 vehicles, imposing nine administrative sanctions for possession of drugs intended for personal use.

Approximately 20 grams of marijuana, hashish and cocaine were seized; the individuals identified were reported to the Prefecture as habitual users.

In Milazzo, evening and night checks conducted by the police station with the support of the “Eastern Sicily” Crime Prevention Department led to the identification of 329 people and 177 cars.

A sanction for possession of cocaine was contested and three premises dedicated to gaming and betting were checked: two were found not to comply with the provisions of the TULPS and were sanctioned. The activities will continue in the coming weeks.
