Domenico Tedesco is the new coach of Bologna. The rossoblù club has formalized the agreement with the former coach of Fenerbahce, Belgium and Leipzig, called to take over the legacy of Vincenzo Italiano, with a note. Tedesco has signed a contract until June 30, 2028 with an option for a subsequent season.
Born in Rossano Calabro on 12 September 1985, Domenico Tedesco moved with his family to Aichwald, Germany, at the age of two. After obtaining a degree in management engineering and a master’s degree in innovation management, he completed the coaching course of the German Football Federation, being the best student. After having spent his career as a footballer with the ASV Aichwald shirt, in January 2008 he began training, in parallel with his role as a player, the club’s youth team. After six months he was hired for the same role by Stuttgart, remaining there for seven years. Having graduated in industrial engineering, in 2013 he left a permanent contract as an engineer at Daimler, the company that builds Mercedes, to continue training. On 8 March 2017 he was hired as coach by Erzgebirge Aue, in the 2nd Bundesliga, who were one step away from relegation. With Tedesco on the bench, the team began to collect a series of positive results, which allowed them to reach 14th place in the standings and the consequent salvation. On 9 June 2017, Schalke 04, a Bundesliga club, announced that they had hired Tedesco as coach for the following season.
Successes in Germany
On 21 May 2022 he won the German Cup on penalties against Freiburg (4-2), after regulation time had ended with a score of 1-1; this trophy, in addition to being the first in the career of the Italian-German coach, is also the first in the history of the club. On 8 February 2023 he took on the role of coach of the Belgian national team, with whom he signed a contract valid until the end of the 2024 European championship. In March 2024, after having obtained qualification for the European competition, he extended his contract until 2026. At the 2024 European Championships the team struggled through the group, only to be eliminated in the round of 16 by France (1-0). On 17 January 2025, following a negative Nations League and internal tensions in the dressing room with the national team veterans, he was sacked. On 9 September 2025 he returned to coaching a club team after 3 years, being hired by Fenerbahce, in the Super Lig, to replace the sacked José Mourinho. On 10 January 2026 he led the team to victory in the Turkish Super Cup. On 27 April 2026, after the 3-0 defeat against Galatasaray, the Turkish club decided to sack him.
