Dangerous escape and resistance to a public official. These are the accusations made by the Carabinieri of Catanzaro Lido against a man arrested at the end of a chase in some of the main arteries of the seaside district.
It was the afternoon when a patrol in Viale Magna Grecia noticed a suspicious car queuing behind a bus. The military therefore decided to proceed to check the vehicle and the driver, ordering a halt using the signaling devices in use. At the sight of the Carabinieri, the man suddenly fled, accelerating sharply and overtaking the bus in front of him.
From that moment, the man undertook a high-speed race through the streets of the centre, during which he carried out extremely dangerous manoeuvres, even proceeding against traffic and putting traffic safety and the safety of motorists and pedestrians at risk.
The chase ended when the driver of the car, left with no escape route on a particularly narrow road, was blocked between the military car arriving behind him and another vehicle coming from the opposite direction. The man, a 34-year-old from Catanzaro, was then arrested and, at the disposal of the Judicial Authority, subjected to house arrest. The Judge of the Court of Catanzaro, following the direct judgment, validated the arrest, ordering the precautionary measure of the obligation to report to the judicial police.
Further checks also revealed that the man was driving without ever having obtained a driving licence, while the vehicle did not have insurance coverage. For these violations, the related administrative sanctions were increased, with the simultaneous seizure of the vehicle.
