In Italy one employed out of two is not satisfied with the work he does: 12.2 million people who have declared their work, equal to 51.7 percent of the total employees in the country, are 12.2 million. The fear of losing the job is widespread especially in the South. The most critical situations affect the employed of Calabria (5.9 percent), those of Sicily (6.4 percent) and, in particular, those of Basilicata (8.8 percent).

The most “serene”, on the other hand, are the workers of the autonomous province of Bolzano: in 2023 only 2.4 percent showed a perception of insecurity of their workplace. The geographical areas with the highest level of work satisfaction are Aosta, Trento and Bolzano: all high mountain territories.

This was revealed by the Cgia Study Office, based on the Bes-Itet investigation conducted in 2023

At a territorial level, the Aosta Valley positioned itself in the first place in the national ranking with 61.7 percent of employees (in absolute value of 70 thousand people); They are people who have declared a significant professional satisfaction. The autonomous province of Trento follow with 61.1 percent (161 thousand) and that of Bolzano with 60.5 (170 thousand). Immediately afterwards Umbria placed with 58.2 (234 thousand), Piedmont with 57.1 (just over a million) and the Marche with 55.4 (370 thousand). With the exception of Piedmont, in the top positions there are mainly geographical realities of small size, characterized by the presence of very small production activities, with a negligible environmental impact. These realities are strongly integrated and in perfect balance with territories of extraordinary beauty, still preserved and for men. In short, according to the Cgia, small businesses in addition to playing a fundamental role in the conservation of local culture and traditions, promote the cultural identity of the communities involved, enhancing the workers who feel the main protagonists of this success. If in the upper part of the ranking, small geographical realities dominate, the tail, on the other hand, is “occupied” by the South regions. In the last places we see the workers of Calabria with a level of happiness of their work of 43.8 percent (equal to 245 thousand people), of Basilicata with 42.3 percent (96 thousand) and, finally, of Campania with 41.2 (681 thousand).

If happiness is a state of mind that concerns the personal sphere, in this case of workers, the well-being of the workplace is a more exhaustive index that also takes into account the socio-economic context in which a worker or an employee operates. The sub -distinctors examined are as follows: employed in fixed -term works for at least 5 years; occupation rate (20-64 years); superstructed employed; non -regular employed; satisfaction for the work done; perception of insecurity of employment; involuntary part time; employed that work from home; rate of non -participation in work; Fatal accident rate and permanent disability. Analyzing the results that emerge from the intersection of the sub -distinctors on the quality of the work, it is Lombardy that leads the national ranking. Follow the autonomous province of Bolzano, Veneto, the autonomous province of Trento, Piedmont and Friuli Venezia Giulia. In the lower parts of the ranking we find Sicily, Basilicata and, tail light, Calabria.

The precarious workers

As for the precarious workers – that is to say the percentage of employees with fixed -term work for at least 5 years – the most critical situations recorded in 2023 affected Calabria and Puglia both with 25.5 percent, Basilicata with 25.7 percent and Sicily with 27.9 percent. Lombardy, on the other hand, is the region that with 10.7 percent is the least affected by this phenomenon. The highest employment rate is the autonomous province of Bolzano which is equal to 79.6 percent, in the Aosta Valley at 77.3 and in Emilia Romagna at 75.9. We see the less virtuous situations in Sicily with 48.7 percent, in Campania and in Calabria both with 48.4.

As regards the overexplated employees – that is, those who in 2023 believed they had a qualification higher than that most owned to carry out that profession on the total employed – the highest tip is 33.5 percent in Molise; Basilicata and 32.7 percent Umbria follow with 33.2 percent. The most contained level is recorded in the autonomous province of Bolzano with 16.3 percent. The irregular work is mainly present in the South, with peaks per 100 employed by 16 percent in Sicily, 16.5 percent in Campania and even 19.6 percent in Calabria. The most contained level, however, we see it in the autonomous province of Bolzano with 7.9 percent.

Smart working

As for Smart Working, Lazio’s workers have more appeal: in 2023 the average affected 20.9 percent of employees. Lombardy follow with 15.6 and Liguria with 14.9. Puglia closes the ranking with 5.4 percent. Among those who have decided not to work and not even looking for a job – that is, the so -called non -participation rate – the data of Calabria stands out with 32.1 percent, of Campania with 32.3 and, in particular, of Sicily with 32.6. The most contained rate records the autonomous province of Bolzano with 3.5 percent. Finally, as regards mortal accidents and which caused permanent disability every 10 thousand employed in 2022, among the most invested regions appear Abruzzo with 14.7 percent, Basilicata with 16.1 and Umbria with 16.7. The less involved region, however, was Lombardy with 7.4 percent.
