A 12 caliber rifle, in perfect condition and ready to shoot, was discovered and seized by the carabinieri of the Palmi Company during a control service along the provincial road that connects the city center to the Tonnara hamlet.
The discovery took place thanks to a joint operation conducted together with the Elportato Cacciatori Calabria squadron and the dog unit of Vibo Valentia. The weapon, wrapped in cellophane and hidden in a cavity obtained in the wall containment wall, was already prepared with part of the cartridges inserted in the charger. Next to the rifle, the military also found about twenty ammunition of the same caliber.
The area in which the rifle had been hidden falls on a land attributable to a subject already known to the police, but in fact freely accessible. With the kidnapping, the carabinieri subtracted a weapon fully functional from the possible availability of local crime, thus avoiding a potential use in criminal activities.
The investigations are now underway to identify the managers of the concealment and clarify the purposes for which the weapon had been hidden.
