Pensions for August 2026 arrive on two different days: Saturday 1st for those who collect at the post office, Monday 3rd for those who have the credit at the bank. However, be careful of a wrong indication that is circulating, according to which the payment would be brought forward to Friday 31 July: this is not the case. Here are the confirmed dates, how cash withdrawal works and the credit calendar until December.
When does the August 2026 pension arrive
The general rule is known: pensions are paid on the first bankable day of the month, with the only exception of January, which is postponed to the second. In August 2026 the 1st falls on a Saturday, and this divides the audience in two. INPS confirmed both dates:
- Saturday 1st August for those who collect at the Italian Post Office: cash withdrawal at the counter, savings book, BancoPosta or Postepay Evolution account;
- Monday 3 August for crediting to bank current accounts, the first available bankable day: Saturday is not a working day for the interbank payment system, while for the postal channel it is.
A different indication is circulating these days, according to which the accreditation would be brought forward to Friday 31 July because the first of the month falls on a Saturday. This is not correct: the advance to the previous working day is not the criterion applied to pensions, and the Institute has set the value at 1 August for the postal channel and 3 August for the banking channel. Anyone who doesn’t see anything on their account on July 31st doesn’t have to worry.
The distinction applies to all types of treatment: old-age pension, advance pension, reversibility pension, social allowance and disability pension.
Bank debits: the check to be done
The mismatch between the two channels deserves extra attention for those who have automatic debits at the beginning of the month. SEPA direct debits expiring on a non-operational day – such as Saturday 1st or Sunday 2nd August – are normally settled on the first following interbank day, in this case Monday 3rd: the same value date as the bank pension.
The risk of an overdraft is therefore not automatic, but there is a margin of uncertainty, because the order in which the bank accounts for credits and debits on the same day depends on the procedures of the individual institution. For an installment or a large amount of money, it is best to make sure you have sufficient funds in your account to cover the weekend.
Cash withdrawal at the post office: how it works
Anyone who collects their pension in cash at the counter can show up starting from Saturday 1st August. Before leaving home, however, it is best to check that your post office is open on Saturdays and at what times: availability varies from one location to another and can be checked on the Poste Italiane website or app.
There is more than one misunderstanding about alphabetical shifts, and it is worth clarifying it:
- the rotation by initial of the surname is not a national calendar established by the INPS, but an organizational practice that Poste Italiane can adopt to distribute attendance over several days, especially in the busiest offices;
- when it is applied, the calendar is defined at a local level and can therefore change from one municipality to another: the valid indications are those displayed by your post office;
- it is not binding: anyone who fails to show up on the day assigned to their letter can collect their pension in the following days – not in the previous ones – within the month. The shift serves to reduce queues, not to limit a right.
Two limitations remain unchanged. Cash withdrawal is only permitted for total amounts up to 1,000 euros net per month: beyond that threshold it is necessary to indicate to INPS an account, a passbook or a card with IBAN on which to receive the credit. Those who have multiple treatments receive them with a single payment order, and the limit is calculated on the overall net amount.
To avoid queues, withdrawals from enabled Postamat ATMs remain available for those who receive their pension in a passbook, BancoPosta or Postepay Evolution account, and appointment booking via the Poste Italiane app.
The pension calendar until December 2026
After August the dates align again between banks and post offices, because the first of the month always falls on a working day, with the exception of November:
- September: Tuesday 1st September;
- October: Thursday 1 October;
- November: Monday 2 November, because the 1st falls on a Sunday and is also the feast of All Saints;
- December: Tuesday 1 December, with the thirteenth.
A warning for November: the second or only installment of the IRPEF advance resulting from the 730 form can be withheld from that installment, when due, together with any other advances such as that of the flat rate tax.
Because the August amount may be different than usual
The day of accreditation is only half the story: in August the amount also often changes, for reasons that concern different audiences.
With this month’s instalment, the adjustments of the 730/2026 form can begin for the accounting results already received by the Institute: a refund for those who close with credit, a withholding for those who close with debit. Declarations submitted later are processed in the following months. Those who collected their fourteenth salary in July instead return to the ordinary amount, because it was a one-off sum and not a structural increase. Finally, a smaller audience may find the withholding linked to the failure to communicate 2022 income: it is equal to 5% of the gross taxable pension for July 2026, it is applied to the August and September accruals and can be avoided by regularizing one’s position by 15 September.
The details of all these items, with the reimbursement brackets and the methods for submitting the income reconstitution, are in the article dedicated to the August payslip.
How to check your payslip and what to do if your pension doesn’t arrive
The August 2026 pension payslip can already be consulted in the MyINPS reserved area, with access via SPID, CIE or CNS. The service also allows you to compare the last two payslips: it is the quickest way to understand where a change in the amount comes from.
If the credit is not received on the due date:
- verify on the payslip that the payment order has been issued and check that the details registered with INPS are correct and updated;
- contact your bank or post office, because the sum may be arranged and not yet visible during the day;
- if the problem persists, contact the INPS Contact Center on 803 164 from a landline, free of charge, or 06 164 164 from a mobile phone, or contact a charity.
The dates of 1st and 3rd August are the value dates established by INPS. A credit that is not visible must be verified with the paying body and the Institute, because the causes depend on the individual position or the registered coordinates.
