Sicily is in the penultimate position between the Italian regions in terms of average spending for family dedicated to durable goods. The annual consumption observatory of Findomestic (group BTP) writes in a note in collaboration with Prometheia, now in its thirty -first edition. The average expenditure of Sicilian families was in fact 2,152 euros, almost 800 euros less than the national average. The island is positioned on the penultimate step of the Italian ranking, Followed only by Campania.

The analysis on the Sicilian provinces highlights better conditions in Syracuse, Catania and Palermo, which with a family expenditure between 2,259 and 2,279 euros are between the 78th and 80th position in the ranking of the Italian provinces. On the consumption side, moreover, Messina (+5.5%) And Catania (+5.3%) are the two most dynamic territories in Sicily and are both in the top 30 of the Italian provinces for growth.

In Messina, in 2024, the consumption of durable goods touched 595 million thanks to an acceleration of +5.5% on the previous year, the best in Sicily and the 26th between the 107 Italian provinces. The average expenditure per family was 2,128 euros with a variation of +5.4% on ’23 (the first in the region and the 21st in the boot). In particular, the purchases of new cars contribute to the general trend: in Messina they go from 101 to 116 million with a +14.8% which represents the 11th highest data in the Italian provincial ranking. For used cars, the Messinesi employed 7.5% more resources (172 million) and for motor vehicles 12.3% more (43 million). If the furniture segment is substantially stable as in all of Sicily (+0.2%, 124 million), that of household appliances is up 3.2% at 52 million. In the negative, the other sectors of the domestic environment: a slight flexion of 1.8% touches telephony (58 million purchases), consumer electronics loses 4.7% (13 million) and information technology travels to -5.4% (16 million).
