Strengthen the role of Municipalities in the governance of the port system and recognize adequate compensatory resources for the territories hosting large infrastructures. This is the position illustrated by the mayor of Gioia Tauro, Simona Scarcella, heard by the IX Transport Commission of the Chamber of Deputies, representing all the Italian mayors of port municipalities, as part of the examination of the proposed reform of law no. 84 of 1994 on the reorganization of port governance. Speaking on behalf of the ANCI and as a member of the National Transport and State Property Commission, Scarcella – who leads the city with one of the most important ports in the Mediterranean – highlighted how port municipalities are often excluded from the main strategic choices, while supporting the direct effects deriving from the presence of infrastructures.
