Nature recovers its spaces. Despite the destruction of thousands of sea lilies in the duna area under the former Marlane promptly reported to the competent authorities by nine environmental associations, on the beach of Praia a Mare, the flowering of these resilient and fragrant plants protected by a special regional law has exploded in all its beauty. To be promoter of their protection for years in particular there is Italia Nostra (Tallo Tirreno Cosentino).
Last July, environmental associations filed a complaint to the Public Prosecutor of Paola for the serious destruction of the duna Habitat of Praia a Mare. The intervention, carried out by mechanical means, caused the leveling of sandy dunes and the elimination of hundreds of protected specimens.
The Superintendency of Cosenza had already intervened in the past with reports and recommendations, while in 2019 the Southern Apennine Basin Authority also indicated precise protection measures to be adopted. A story that had also found Eco in the regional council, where the councilor Ferdinando Laghi presented more questions (in 2022, 2024 and 21 July last), soliciting urgent measures for the protection of the sea lily and the entire coastal area. The associations therefore highlighted the urgency of concrete actions by proposing the extension on a provincial scale of the figure of the Guaranto del Green. For the nine associations it is a natural heritage to be protected.
