Jeffrey Lewis of the Middlebury Institute of International Studies based in California and Decker Eveleth of the CNA research and analysis organization, based in Virginia, have formulated their evaluations separately, studying the images taken in the last few weeks until Tuesday by Planet Labs, a commercial satellite company. They agreed that the photos showed an intense activity at the Pankovo test site, in the Novaja Zemlja archipelago in the sea of Barents, including staff increases, equipment, ships and planes associated with the previous tests of 9m730 Burevestnik. “We can see all the activity on the test site, which consists both in the arrival of enormous quantities of supplies to support operations, and in the movement in the place where the missile is actually launched,” said Lewis. A source of western security, which asked to remain anonymous, confirmed that Russia is preparing a Burevestnik test. Lewis said that a test could take place this week, assuming that this activity could overshadow the Trump-Putin summit in Alaska.
