An important meeting organized by the ANIOC Delegation – Metropolitan City of Reggio Calabria, dedicated to the theme “Children Online: the risks of the web” took place on Monday 24 November in the Aula Magna of the IPALBTUR “Giovanni Trecroci” in Villa San Giovanni. The objective of the day was to raise students’ awareness of the conscious, safe and responsible use of digital tools.
The event was moderated by the President of the Reggina Section of the National Association of Honorees of Chivalry, Dr. Emanuele Nazario Scarlata, who opened the proceedings, introduced the guests and introduced the topics at the center of the debate, underlining the importance of prevention and training in the context of digital citizenship.
After the introduction, institutional greetings were brought by Professor Enza Loiero, Head of School of the Institute, who reiterated the role of the school in protecting students, especially in relation to the risks associated with the use of the web, social media and new technologies.

Dr. Roberto Di Palma, Public Prosecutor at the Juvenile Court of Reggio Calabria, who with his engaging speech, divided into several moments of the morning, enthused the students by establishing a spontaneous, direct dialogue full of food for thought. The Prosecutor addressed crucial issues such as cyberbullying, computer crimes, responsibility of minors, protection of privacy and risky behaviour, inviting children to reflect on the consequences of their online actions.
State Police Inspector Antonio La Russa then took the floor and, with a clear and informal conversation on the topic of legality, offered the young people further ideas and topics to discuss, drawing attention to the value of respecting the rules and awareness.
During the morning, an anonymous questionnaire was administered to the students, the results of which were then commented on together with the students, encouraging a moment of open and spontaneous discussion, during which the students were able to share experiences, doubts and personal reflections.
A further significant moment was dedicated to November 25th – International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, an opportunity to reiterate the importance of respect, listening and solidarity as fundamental values of every school and civil community.
At the end of the meeting, Professor Giovanna Tripodi spoke and further explored the reflections that emerged, recalling the principles of legality, respect and solidarity. The teacher, delegated contact for the issues of bullying and cyberbullying, together with Professor Laura Russo, underlined the active role of the school in the prevention and management of phenomena related to violence, including online.
The day ended with great participation and attention from the students, who demonstrated interest and maturity in tackling such delicate and current topics. The open discussion, the quality of the interventions and the availability of the guests transformed the meeting into a true educational experience, capable of leaving a concrete mark on the growth path of the children.
An initiative that confirms, once again, the commitment of IPALBTUR “Giovanni Trecroci” in promoting an attentive, responsible school capable of educating aware citizens, ready to experience the digital world with intelligence, respect and civic sense.
