A month of August to remember for the Calabria airport network. The system managed by Sacal achieved its best result ever, recording a total of 564,624 passengers and recording a leap of +19% compared to the same period in 2025.

International traffic in particular pushed the performance of the regional network, which in August reached 324,077 passengers (+37% compared to 2025), representing 42% of the total movement in Calabrian airports.

The overtaking of Lamezia and the detail of the ports

Particularly significant is the data from Lamezia Terme airport, protagonist of a historic “overtaking”: for the first time in its history, in fact, the volume of passengers on international flights exceeded that of domestic routes. With 217,773 users, the international reached 50.30% of the total of the centralizing airport.

The detailed numbers for the month of August 2026 highlight a differentiated trend between the three structures:

Lamezia Terme: 432,978 passengers (+25% on August 2025)

Reggio Calabria: 97,128 passengers (+6% on August 2025)

Crotone: 34,518 passengers (-0.4% on August 2025)

A solid trend in the first eight months of 2026

The summer record does not represent an isolated episode, but is part of a positive and constant trend. In the period between January and August 2026, the Calabrian airport system handled a total of 3,299,880 passengers, recording an increase of 12% compared to the first eight months of 2025 (a year which had already closed with a record number of 4.3 million passengers).

The comment of the Sacal leaders

«The achievement of the new historical record represents a result of extraordinary importance for the Calabrian Airport System and for the entire region», declared Luciano Vigna, President of Sacal. «The data that satisfies us most is the quality of growth. We are not simply moving more passengers: we are building an increasingly broad, diversified and international network, capable of making our region accessible and competitive.”

«This result makes us even more responsible», concluded Vigna. «The record achieved does not represent a point of arrival, but the new basis on which to build growth in the coming years, continuing to invest in the connectivity and sustainable development of the regional airport system».
