Giorgia Meloni claims the unity of the centre-right, Antonio Tajani the leading role of Forza Italia, Stefania Craxi attacks Futuro Nazionale and rejects the interpretation of a “Vannacci effect”. These are the reactions to Fabio Roscioli’s result in the by-elections of Reggio Calabria: congratulations to the candidate and thanks to the voters, to the President of the Region Roberto Occhiuto and to Francesco Cannizzaro come from the leaders of the coalition.
Meloni: «A compact and rooted coalition rewarded»
The Prime Minister and leader of the Brothers of Italy takes to social media with a message focused on the unity of the coalition. «The center-right also confirms its unity in the Reggio Calabria by-elections, imposing itself on the very large opposition field», states Meloni.
So congratulations to Roscioli and thanks to those who supported him: «Congratulations to Fabio Roscioli for the result and thanks to all the voters who chose to place their trust in us. A vote that once again rewards a compact coalition, rooted and capable of speaking to the territories.”
Tajani: «Forza Italia drives the centre-right»
«Forza Italia wins by a landslide in the by-elections in Reggio Calabria, leading the center-right with our candidate Fabio Roscioli». The deputy prime minister and national secretary of the Azzurri Antonio Tajani thus comments, on X, the first results of the vote. And he extends thanks “to all those who worked for this extraordinary result, starting with Roberto Occhiuto and Ciccio Cannizzaro”.
The message also welcomes Roscioli to the Forza Italia group in the Chamber: «In the coming months he will best represent the demands of the people of Reggio Calabria and Calabria».
For Tajani, the result confirms “the strength of our party in the territory, its roots among the people and the ability to attract citizens and categories to serious, shared and popular ideas”. The Italian leader then recalls the origins of the coalition: «We are and confirm ourselves, even in these elections, a pillar of the center-right that Berlusconi created, founded and brought to success. Welcome Fabio, and let’s go Forza Italia!».
Craxi attacks Futuro Nazionale: «No Vannacci effect»
The president of the Forza Italia senators, Stefania Craxi, defines Roscioli’s statement as “clear” and “an important result”. «We were confident because in Calabria the center-right is in excellent health: there is a regional government that is giving concrete answers to citizens and a city administration that has started a serious process of good governance», he declares.
Craxi, however, underlines that “no result should ever be taken for granted” and thanks the people from Reggio for their trust, as well as Occhiuto and Cannizzaro for the work done. Then the attack: «On the other hand, we have witnessed episodes of transformism that deserve clear condemnation».
Futuro Nazionale is above all in the sights. According to Craxi, his result «can be traced back more to Giannetta’s retreating consensus» than to an alleged Vannacci effect, which in his opinion «simply did not exist». «In Reggio Calabria the space for National Future has not opened up», he concludes, before addressing Roscioli «our congratulations and best wishes for good work».
