A penitentiary police officer was attacked in the Reggio Calabria prison, suffering “very serious bruises”. This was made known by the deputy general secretary of Osapp (Autonomous Penitentiary Police Trade Union Organisation), Pasquale Montesano, launching an «ultimatum to the ministry and the Dap» and «at the same time expressing profound gratitude to the women and men of the force for their heroic spirit of service».
In the Reggio Calabria Arghillà prison «just a few hours after the last serious episode – says Montesano – yet another attack against prison police personnel was recorded today. The colleague involved suffered bruises considered very serious. We are now faced with a continuous sequence that certifies the total loss of control of the detention sections.” «What we are expressing is not a preconceived accusation, but the dramatic and objective observation of the facts», declares Montesano.
«The facts are proving us right with frightening speed: in Arghillà we are faced with a clear organizational disaster which has become, in fact, the real springboard for the inconveniences, risks and daily exasperation of the penitentiary police».
“The gravity of the situation, critically exasperated by the chronic overcrowding and the total absence of clear operational guidelines, pushes the independent union to demand immediate and no longer postponable interventions from the central administration and the Ministry of Justice”, it is explained in a note. «If the Dap and the ministry – concludes Montesano – do not immediately activate rigorous checks on the management of the structure and do not adopt protocols of energetic intervention to protect the Corps, the union mobilization will be immediate, total and unprecedented».
