New investments in technology, new spaces dedicated to patients and a balance sheet that closes in the black. The Great Metropolitan Hospital of Reggio Calabria continues its modernization path with the inauguration of the new 3 Tesla Magnetic Resonance Unit, the new clinics of the Orthopedics and Traumatology Unit and the Aortic Team, the multidisciplinary unit dedicated to patients suffering from complex aortic pathologies.
The ceremony was attended by the extraordinary commissioner Tiziana Frittelli, the acting health director Salvatore Maria Costarella, the acting administrative director Francesco Araniti, the director of the Department of Advanced Diagnostic Therapeutic Technologies Antonio Armentano, the head of Vascular Surgery Antonino Alberti, the medical director of the garrison Matteo Galletta, as well as the prefect Clara Vaccaro, the police commissioner Paolo Sirna and other civil, military and political authorities.
A new 3 Tesla MRI for the Morelli facility
The new machine, intended for the Radiology UOC of the Morelli facility, represents the second 3 Tesla Magnetic Resonance Scan supplied to the GOM and is the fortieth and last piece of equipment purchased with the residual resources of the PNRR.
«We are inaugurating a top-of-the-range piece of equipment, the 3 Tesla Magnetic Resonance Imaging Unit, the second with which the Company has equipped itself as well as the fortieth and last piece of equipment purchased with residual resources from the PNRR», declared the extraordinary commissioner Tiziana Frittelli.
The new equipment was installed in a completely redeveloped environment characterized by blow-ups dedicated to views of the city of Reggio Calabria. It also completes a diagnostic area in which there is already a new CT scan, two remote-controlled systems, a mammograph and an MOC.
What is the new 3 Tesla Magnetic Resonance Imaging
The new system was designed to meet the most modern diagnostic needs and allows examinations of the head, neck, spine, musculoskeletal system and entire body.
The equipment is also equipped with SmartSpeed technology based on Artificial Intelligence algorithms, which allows reducing image acquisition times while maintaining high quality standards, improving patient comfort and the efficiency of clinical activity.
The Aortic Team is born
Among the new features also presented is the Aortic Team, a multidisciplinary unit that will take care of patients suffering from complex aortic pathologies.
The Grande Ospedale Metropolitano thus becomes the seventh Italian hospital to validate this organizational model, which involves Vascular Surgery, Cardiac Surgery, Intensive Care, Radiology, Cardiology-ICU and Cardiac Surgical Resuscitation.
New clinics for Orthopedics and Traumatology
During the day, the new clinics of the Orthopedics and Traumatology Unit were also inaugurated, created through the redevelopment of rooms previously used by the Analysis Laboratory.
The new spaces include two plaster rooms, a materials storage room and dedicated services and will make it possible to improve the management of patient checks and follow-ups.
Commissioner Frittelli recalled how the department already represents excellence today, confirmed by the data of the National Outcome Plan relating to operation times for femur fractures.
Budget in surplus and new investments
The inauguration was also an opportunity to illustrate the economic results of the healthcare company.
«Our company closed the year in the black and this is a source of great pride for us. Compared to 2024 there was an increase in the value of production of approximately 18 million euros. We have purchased latest generation equipment, innovative drugs and much more without making linear cuts to staff or services”, declared the extraordinary commissioner.
The day ended with a visit to the new departments and with the blessing of the 3 Tesla Magnetic Resonance Imaging given by the deacon Antonino Quaresima.
