Large victories – and the centre-right in Reggio won with 70% of popular support – do not always herald good news. It is no coincidence that sport teaches how to win and not how to win. Both out of respect for the opponent and because “overwhelming victories” always bring with them problems of abundance which are not easy to manage. And it is precisely in these circumstances that a great coach is needed. A Capello, an Ancelotti or a Mourinho capable of managing the group with wisdom and with the authority to put some (presumed) stars on the bench for the good of the group. Moving away from the football metaphor, it is clear that the centre-right’s “overwhelming victory” is causing “management” problems for Mayor Cannizzaro and the city is paying the price. Everyone brought their brick to the cause and everyone wants to be rewarded.
But there are few places on the council and the accounts to balance are not simple. In the new Cencelli manual in Reggina style they are trying to add the presidency of the city council or the post of metropolitan deputy mayor, but they are not enough to put everything back in balance. This is why Reggio is still without a council but still full of problems waiting for a solution. The centre-right and mayor Cannizzaro have ended up in a quagmire which is also intertwined with the enlargement of the regional council – also long overdue – and this could further complicate already complex accounts. This is why Cannmizzaro convened the municipal council to set up the new administration on the very last day, to have more time to smooth out the edges and choose the men and women who will make up his government team.
And even the popular journalist and mass mediaologist Klaus Davi, who always follows the events in Reggio with great interest, asks himself the question that all people in Reggio are asking: “Why is the Cannizzaro council still not there a month before the elections?”. And then, trying to give an answer, Davi adds: «Because someone doesn’t want Antonino Caridi in the team. Videos, social media, live broadcasts but the news that everyone expects does not arrive. The new mayor is unable to find the right solution because someone doesn’t want Antonino Caridi, the most voted after the elected mayor, to become a councillor, and of weight, as he fully deserves. It is not known why but Cannizzaro does not want to include the Northern League member in his scattered “dream team”, preferring people – it is said – from his municipality of origin in Aspromonte. But without Caridi, the lord of preferences – concludes Klaus Davi –, the new city government would be missing an extremely popular figure who could create problems. In short, Reggio without a council after thirty long days, as if it were the new Draghi government. How long can this pantomime last?”.
The people of Reggio, who are historically full of hope, are confident that, beyond the Caridi-yes or Caridi-no, the puzzle of the new council will be solved as soon as possible and that mayor Cannizzaro already has all the aces in hand to also win the challenge of the city government (and of the metropolitan territory perhaps with all the delegations and functions). And achieve another resounding and convincing victory. It would be important for the present and future of the city.
