With the greeting of the Government, brought by the deputy prime minister and minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani, the management of the administration of the mayor Francesco Cannizzaro opened in Reggio Calabria. The first session of the city council took place outdoors, in a packed “Ciccio Franco” Strait Arena, on the Italo Falcomatà seafront.
The council proceeded to validate the elected representatives, which was followed by the oath of mayor Francesco Cannizzaro. The president of the municipal council, the two vice presidents and the two Quaestor Secretaries were then elected. Councilor Federico Milia (FI) was elected as president; vice presidents, Luisa Curatola (Reggio Futura) and Filippo Quartuccio (Reformists). Secretaries of the Quaestors, Ramona Calafiore and Francesco Catalano. «A great pleasure for me – said Tajani during the city council meeting – to be able to be here, in this beautiful city of our country, the company that has had an extraordinary history and will have an extraordinary history. I am convinced that the mayor will give his best. I have known him for many years, I appreciated his decision to give up his parliamentary career to support the needs of his city. The job of mayor is a difficult job.”
«I know how many problems – he added – there are to solve every day in a big city. A city like Reggio Calabria, which overlooks the Mediterranean, cannot help but be a city with an international vocation. As long as I am in Government I will do everything I can to make this happen.”
