“Our goal is to obtain four seats out of eight in the province of Messina, but I’m working on the fifth. And at the national table I removed the preliminary ruling on my candidacy for the presidency of the Region”. Thus Cateno De Luca launches the sprint for the regional elections, on the day in which he formalizes the candidacies of three of the four lists of South calls North already announced, but also looking at the political elections, “where we have the objective of reaching 5-6 deputies and 3 senators”.
De Luca, in a press conference with the mayor of Messina Federico Basile and the regional coordinator of the party Danilo Lo Giudice, reiterates that “the first objective is to raise the bar to 20% as a starting point in Sicily. But we are working so that the starting point of the lists in support of the liberation government reaches the regional 30%. By the end of October you will see what will materialise. There are two other lists and I cannot tell you what the last one will be called, I would spoil it for you surprise.”
De Luca also makes numerical predictions: “The Free and Strong list is calibrated with a range that goes from 29 to 34 thousand votes. The De Luca Mayor of Sicily list 34-37 thousand votes. South calls North goes beyond 60 thousand votes”. The cancellation of the condition of candidacy for the presidency is not a renunciation: “The national table is one thing, the regional one is another thing. If I sit without prejudice, no one can impose their presidential candidate on me. And at the last séance I said clearly that they will be the ones to look for me”. De Luca also makes a joke on the topic of the electoral appeal in Messina: “I don’t rule out the possibility that in a few weeks I will amaze you with the special effects. The scenario will not change, that of the polls is clear and that will remain, even in the face of the TAR. Intimidation? The objective was to slow down my work, a disruptive action”.
They are Nadia Rivetti, opposition group leader in Rodì Milici (where the mayor is her husband, Eugenio Aliberti), originally from Galati Mamertino, and Filippo Iannelli, doctor and entrepreneur from Terme Vigliatore and founder of the political movement “Together for the territory”, the last two candidates for the regional elections, “the pioneers of the province of Messina”, from South calls North, the names that complete the list that had already been announced in recent weeks. Maria Fernanda Gervasi, however, takes the place of the mayor of Barcelona, Melangela Scolaro, in the role of provincial commissioner of the party.
