We work in Calabria with an agreement with 5 Star Movement and Democratic Party in view of the next regional elections anticipated after the resignation of President Roberto Occhiuto. In this context, the proposal of the former mayor of Riace (and current MEP) emerges Mimmo Lucano.

While Giuseppe Conte has chosen Roberto Fico as a candidate for Campania and in the other regions it will be the Democratic Party to indicate the names on the field for the regional of 2025, the position of Avs becomes more critical. The Verdi -Administration alliance – as Maria Teresa Meli explains on Corriere della Sera – complains that she is not treated on a par with the other partners of the progressive coalition. For this reason, he made the request to propose the candidate for the presidency of the Calabria Region, where he will return to the polls in October after the surprise scene of Occhiuto.

The name proposed by the leaders of AVS, Angelo Bonelli and Nicola Fratoianni, is of those difficult to ignore, both for the 5 Star Movement, which would be oriented to indicate its own candidate, and for the Democratic Party, which is evaluating figures such as Nicola Irto, current regional coordinator of the party, and Giuseppe Falcomatà, mayor of Reggio Calabria.

This is Mimmo Lucano, today MEP for AVS and former mayor symbol of Riace. Lucano had already participated in the Calabrian regional of 2021, guiding the civic list “Another Calabria is possible” in all circumscriptions, in support of Luigi de Magistris. On that occasion he obtained 9,779 personal preferences, but the list stopped at 2.39% of the consents, not exceeding the threshold of 4% necessary to enter the regional council.

Now, however, Fratoianni and Bonelli are convinced that, with the entire compact progressive field on him, Lucano has real possibilities of victory.
