The leader of the 5 Star Movement, Giuseppe Contehe concluded his tour in Calabria, in Corigliano Rossano, in view of the regional elections, expressing strong criticism of the national government on the Gaza issue and a cautious optimism on the possibilities of the center -left comeback led by Pasquale Tridico.
Government attack on Gaza and possession of activists
Conte opened the interview by underlining the importance of peaceful manifestations in Italy, defined as a “testimony of their civic commitment, of the moral values of this Italy,” values that civil society is recovering. The leader M5s harshly criticized the position of the executive: “The behavior of the government that remained in front of an absolutely inert genocide, absolutely silent and this has also weighed a lot on the reasons for these squares.”
The theme has been connected to the detention of activists, including the Croatian parliamentarian. Conte confirmed that he spoke with the deputy, tried by “illegitimate detention,” and has launched an urgent appeal: “We hope that they are immediately repatriated because, we remember, they are detained illegally, they were arrested in international waters by an army that our government considers ally.”
Suffering Calabria and the run -up of Tridico
Moving on to the Calabrian election campaign, Conte described a region in serious difficulty: “This is a region that from health to infrastructure to a serious employment policy suffers a lot, the priorities and emergencies are many.”
The leader recognized that the outgoing governor, Occhiutohe “played in advance” to put the opponent’s field in difficulty, obtaining an “advantage position.” Despite this, Conte expressed confidence in the Tridic candidate and in the coalition: “We found an excellent candidate, a great resource, has made available the whole coalition, we have projects, concrete programs.”
The strategy is now that of the run -up: “This run -up on the wave of citizens’ enthusiasm will be able to reveal bad surprises on the accounts that Occhiuto has done,” has prophesied Conte, suggesting that the vote could overturn the initial forecasts.
The pride for Pasquale Tridico’s work
Finally, Conte dedicated his final words to the candidate Pasquale Tridico, preferring pride to the blessing: “In a secular vision I don’t give blessings. I can only say that I am proud of the work that Pasquale Tridico has done“.”
He concluded by encouraging the Calabrians to vote en masse for the change: “I am proud of the proposals that this coalition has put on the field and I really trust that citizens can come to many to vote for this change.”
