A violent fire broke out today in the Rende territory, near the “Metropolis” shopping center. The flames, whose causes are still in the assessment phase, have completely destroyed a large shed located behind the commercial structure.
Inside the shed, numerous tires and waste of various kinds were stored, which further fed the stake, release a dense column of black smoke visible from every corner of the Cosenza urban area.
The firefighters of the Provincial Command of Cosenza, supported by the police were promptly intervened on the spot, to circumscribe the flames and secure the area.
The shutdown operations are still in progress. For security reasons, the authorities have ordered the temporary closure of the Mediterranean A2 motorway, in the south direction, where one is currently on one lane.
