From Milan, Matteo Renzi launches an appeal to the centre-left to speed up the program for the political elections and to put proposals at the center “for the next ten years”, recalling that without Italia Viva “it won’t win”. And then in dialogue with the city mayor Giuseppe Sala, he explains that he will support whoever wins the coalition primaries, if they are held, including Giuseppe Conte.

Milan to vote in 2027, Calabresi’s availability

Primaries, the yes to Conte: «Whoever wins them represents everyone»
At the center of the dialogue between the leader of Italia Viva and the mayor of Milan are the upcoming electoral appointments and the unknown of the primaries. Renzi says he is willing to support whoever wins, even the leader of the 5 Star Movement Giuseppe Conte. «My answer is yes. If you agree to run the primaries, whoever wins, you support them. Then do everything so that someone else wins – he underlines –. The topic is not Conte. If there are primaries, whoever wins them represents everyone. If he wins, he rules, period. Conte is not my political model but I have already supported him as Prime Minister.” Beppe Sala says the same thing, explaining that he bears no grudge against the leader of the M5S who had asked for his resignation after the investigations into urban planning. “I will vote for others, but if he wins he will have my support.”
The appeal to the coalition: no vetoes
And then from both comes an appeal to the coalition to speed up the program and not to use vetoes. «Let’s roll up our sleeves and get to work – says Renzi –, enough of those who say yes, you no and then explain to you what you have to do, that’s not what politics is about. If someone hadn’t destroyed the third pole in a reckless way, today there would be a balancing pole.” Excluding Italia Viva and Matteo Renzi from the coalition would be «madness – underlines Sala – and whoever were to do so will do damage to the left, I expect the Democratic Party to say this forcefully».
Renzi also claims from Milan that the centre-left without Italia Viva «goes everywhere, but doesn’t win. I mean, that’s the problem. The fundamental theme is that the numbers are clear – he said –, so we want to make a contribution on the issues.” Starting from “school, health, safety”.
