Roccalumera, the Salvatore Quasimodo park turns 25: a garrison of culture, history and beauty

The Literary Park Salvatore Quasimodo the unparalleled land, a particularly significant anniversary for a space, was born in the ancient Station of Roccalumera Mandanici by the will of the brothers Sergio and Carlo Mastroeni, supported by Alexander son of the poet, where the family and artistic history of the Nobel Prize for literature, the leading exponent of the hermetic current, became the literary park. To celebrate this important birthday by taking stock of the work done, thanks to the synergy with the local institutions, the bodies and the cultural associations, an evening during which the most intimate memories of the poet and his family originally from the Ionian area were evoked through the testimony of the cousin, Marisa Sturiale, but new and important objectives have also been set. First of all, the transfer of a part of the Quasimodo archive from the Metropolitan City to the museum hosted in the waiting room of the ancient railway station of Roccalumera Mandanici and in the wagons: to announce the mayor of Roccalumera Giuseppe Lombardo. And then the digitization of the entire heritage, as explained by Messina Andrea De Pasquale, contact person for the general management and communication of the Ministry of Culture.

The event was attended by the general manager of the metropolitan city of Messina Giuseppe Campass, the mayor of Taormina Cateno De Luca, the president of the Gal Taormina Peloritani Antonio Bonfiglio and Richard Causton, composer and professor at the University of Cambridge. The evening was enriched by two significant audio contributions by Professor Joseph Farrell, of the University of Strathclyde (Glasgow), a scholar of importance of contemporary Italian literature and Arnaldo Dante Marianacci, former director of the Italian Cultural Institutes in various European capital, including Prague, Dublin, Edinburgh, Budapest and Vienna.

During the evening, the titles of honorary members of the Salvatore Quasimodo literary park were conferred to the Fai delegation from Messina, to the knight Salvatore Bonfiglio who donated much of the book heritage that is located in the Park Museum and to the “ring of the Nisi” association, for their constant commitment in the enhancement of the literary park and its cultural heritage. The artists Gesuele Sciacca and Daniela Greco took care of the musical interventions on Poetic texts by Quasimodo.

The initiative was carried out with the support of the Municipality of Roccalumera, the Union of Municipalities of the Jonic Valleys of the Peloritani, the Municipality of Pagliara and with the contribution of numerous local associations.
