A new landing of migrants of various nationalities, the thirteenth in the last four months, has occurred in the early afternoon in the port of Roccella Ionica. There were 79 people, of Afghan, Pakistani and Iranian nationality, identified, at the end of a rescue operation made complicated by the very rough sea, by the military of the Coast Guard of Roccella Ionica, directed by the captain of Corvetta Daniele Ticconi.
The migrants, including a fifteen women, one of whom are in an advanced state of pregnancy, seven children and eight other unaccompanied minors, had started at least four days ago from Türkiye. The sailboat on which they traveled was identified about 100 miles away from the Calabrian coast.
After the transbord, for safety reasons, on the consortium of the Coast Guard, the 79 migrants were conducted in port. At the end of a first check by the law enforcement agencies and medical staff of the provincial health company, they were entrusted to the volunteers of the Red Cross and hosted, momentarily, in the first reception and rescue center set up in the port.
