“The news of the institution at the Unical of Cosenza of a record number of specialization schools in medicine – the highest in Italy – with financial covers guaranteed not only by ministerial funds but also directly from the budget of the Calabria Region, confirms the path started in recent years by the President and Commissioner Occhiuto: concentrating in Cosenza all the economic and design resources in the health and university field”. “A path that seriously risks, in the short term, to lead to the closure of the other medical faculties present in Calabria, starting from that of Catanzaro, which has been a garrison of excellence for decades and an essential point of reference for the formation and health of our territory. There is still no institution of the Polyclinic in Cosenza that Occhiuto has announced that it wants to carry out in the event of re -election, with a hypothesized investment of 1 billion of Euro. “The growth of Cosenza and every part of Calabria is welcome: but the growth must concern the entire territory, one cannot think of sacrificing the regional capital and its health and university system on the altar of a few particular and electoral interests. For this reason, Capellupo addresses “a direct appeal to the National Government and the Ministry of the University and Research to intervene to guarantee equal dignity and equal development opportunities to all the territories of Calabria, avoiding that chosen unbalanced and without an overall vision compromise the future of the regional training and health system”.
