The June 16, 2025, in Lamezia Terme, soldiers of the Carabinieri Company of Lamezia Termethey performed two precautionary ordinances – issued by the investigating judge of the Juvenile Court of Catanzaro and the investigating judge of the Court of Lamezia Terme, at the request of the respective prosecutors of the Republic against as many suspects (an adult for which the measure of house arrest with electronic bracelet was ordered, and a minor, placed in ministerial communities), held responsible in various capacities of numerous criminal events relating to thefts aggravated on cars and damage to cars parked on the public via.
The investigation, called “Shatter” (ing. “rage“), Conducted by the military of the Operational and Radiomobile Unit of the Carabinieri Company of Lamezia Terme and coordinated by the Public Prosecutor for the Catanzaro minors and the Public Prosecutor of the Lametina Republic, allowed:
- document the repeated commission by the suspects, of aggravated thefts on parked cars, as well as damage to cars parked on the public street;
- Mulchly reconstruct the commission of 27 autonomous criminal events, between aggravated thefts and damage, consumed in the historic center of Lamezia Terme and in the Sambiase district, crystallizing and documenting the events crime subject to charge against the suspects, through technical investigations and “traditional “including computer stalking, observation, control and stalking services, as well as through the demanding analysis of beyond 180 hours of movies extrapolated from the 45 video surveillance equipment public and private acquired during the investigations;
- ascertain the modus operandi with which the suspects operated in competition with each other.
The investigation resulted from a series of thefts on cars and damage to cars parked on the public street, perpetrated on the night between February 28 and March 1, circumstance during which, the military of the NOR Radio Section, had stopped a minor seriously suspected of being the responsible of 4 theft of cars, reported that same night to the unique number of emergency 112, referring it to the AGI for the minors.
The very rapid start of the inspection activities and the subsequent investigations by the NOR military of the Carabinieri Company of Lamezia Terme, have made it possible to reconstruct a far more alarming scenario. Indeed It was possible to ascertain that the minor, during the night under examination, had agitated to another subject competition. It was thanks to the investigative insights that, in addition to fully identifying the second, a nineteen year old from Curinga (CZ), it was possible to reconstruct by the two young people, 22 other criminal events, between aggravated thefts (attempted and consumed) and damage, all committed that same night in the streets of the historic center Lametino, with the same modus operandi.
The investigative results, made possible also thanks to the widespread presence of public and private video surveillance equipment, were the result of an investigative effort characterized by:
- a quick activity of georeference of the places where the crimes had been consumed;
- a meticulous identification of the video surveillance devices present in the immediate vicinity of the places where the crimes had been perpetrated;
- A daytime, demanding and heavy activity that required the display and analysis of over 180 hours of videos recorded by the 45 acquired video surveillance equipment.
This investigative maneuver has made it possible to trace the CD electronic stalking of the alleged managers, or the palm reconstruction of all their movements in the hours of interest for the investigation, starting from about 20.30 on February 28, until 04.30 of about March 1, 2025, documenting analytically and with objective findings both the courses made, and the commission of the crimes disputed to them.
To the two investigated, the aggravated damage to a parked vehicle in the Sambiase district took place in April was also attributed. In this circumstance, the investigations performed synergistically by the NOR Operational Section and the local Carabinieri Station of Sambiase, made it possible to identify the two young people in the act to damage a parking car, to which all the tires had been perforated. Also in this case the demanding analysis of numerous videos acquired by video surveillance equipment in the area was fundamental.
To arouse particular concern is the involvement of a minor in criminal activities, with insolvency roles that lay for its early adultization and demonstrate the need for interventions as timely as possible in contexts of particular social marginality and educational poverty to promote forms of prevention and social reintegration that want to be effectively effective, with a systematic and coordinated commitment of all institutions in relation to the specific profiles of competence.
The events under investigation emerge once again, the importance of the widespread presence of video surveillance systems in the city and the Carabinieri weapon underlines “…The commendable civic sense of the citizens of Lametini who provided all the necessary support to the military of the Carabinieri Corps, making available their homes, rather than commercial activities, in order to view and acquire the videos then analyzed … “.
The soldiers of the Carabinieri Company of Lamezia Terme then recalled citizenship to take on good preventive conduct, advising “… avoid leaving in cars valuable assets and even more refraining from leaving these personal effects in sight in vehicles of the vehicles, they are good practices useful to make desisting from the fulfillment of thefts …“.
