The Schifani junta has approved the legal bases of the aid regime for two strategic actions of the Pr-Festa 2021-2027 program which mobilize resources for over 610 million euros with the aim of supporting the development and manufacture of innovative, digital and sustainable technologies on the Sicilian territory. In particular, action 1.6.1 has a equipment of approximately 370 million euros for the “promotion of investments for the development and manufacture of digital technologies, Deep Tech and biotechnology”, while action 2.9.1 has resources equal to about 246 million euros for the “support for the development and production of clean and efficient technologies in terms of resources”. The initiative includes, among other things, the implementation of the program agreement between the Sicilian Region, the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy and Stmicroelectronics, approved last May 6, which aims to promote investment projects for the realization of critical technologies. These include those deemed essential for national security, technological sovereignty, economic competitiveness and the green and digital transition, according to the definitions of the STEP regulation of the European Union. “With these measures – says the regional councilor for production activities Edy Tamajo – we provide over 600 million euros to accompany Sicily in a decisive phase of technological and sustainable growth. Our goal is to create an ecosystem in favor of investments, capable of generating qualified employment and attracting international companies. The collaboration with Mimit and with Stmicroelectronics is a strong signal: Sicily can and must be the protagonist in the development of critical, digital and green technologies, essential for the competitiveness and safety of the country. It is not just about resources, but a vision that looks to the future. Investing in research and innovation means investing in the human capital of our land. We want young Sicilians to find the opportunities here to grow professionally, without having to leave their region ». The interventions may include industrial research and experimental development activities, strengthening the role of Sicily as a strategic hub for innovation and sustainability.
