A billion almost round, to be exact, 995.7 million. So much, translated into euros, amounts the annual volume of the Sicilian export to the United States: a mountain of turnover that the companies of the island could see halved if the increase in duties at 30%, threatened yesterday by President Trump on the goods coming from the EU, became reality. It is the projection, on a regional scale, of the estimates developed at national level by the new Report of the Cgia di Mestrewhich for all of Italy, between the umpteenth surge of commercial protectionism ventilated by the Tycoon and the consequent, probable devaluation of the dollar against the single European currency, hypothesizes a loss between 30 and 35 billion compared to almost 65 earned with exports to America, that is, a drop between 46 and 54% on the total: incidence that would be compared to the island, between 458 and 458 million euros.
A chasm that could also increase, if Sicily in 2025 repeated the performances of 2023, when the turnover towards the States reached 1 billion and 264 million.
