Sixth championship for the doctor-footballers of Cosenza. President Antonio Caputo’s team, coached by the historic club doctor of Cosenza football, Enrico Costabile, won the Tricolore in the final of the 24th Championship organized by the Asd Nazionale Medici Calcio, led by doctor Giovanni Borrelli, which took place in Cilento, on the fields of Agropoli and Capaccio. In a final characterized by healthy competitiveness, as befits such events, the Sila team beat their colleagues from Palermo Medica, the revelation team of the event, by 2 to 0. The Calabrians’ goals were scored by Zicarelli (with six goals he won the trophy up for grabs for the scorer) and Colangelo. A success dedicated to Daniele Caracciolo, one of the pillars of the Italian champions, victim of a serious injury, and to the families present in the grandstand of the “Mario Vecchio” in Capaccio scalo.
Ten teams divided into two groups took part in the championship organized in collaboration with Aics, the municipal administrations of Capaccio Paestum and Agropoli, which made the sports facilities available, the Herajon sports group, chaired by Gaetano Franco Tolomeo, which is celebrating 70 years of activity, the FIGC delegate, Antonio Inverso. The top two of the groups advanced to the semi-finals. Cosenza came first in group A with 6 points after beating Trinacria Palermo 4 to 2 (Caputi, Zicarelli 2 and Spina plus Di Gangi and Rigano), lost 2 to 1 against Palermo Medica (second in the group with 5 points) and beat Napoli Flegrea 2 to 0. In group B, first place in Naples (7 points) and second in Melito Porto Salvo (4). The defending champions Taranto and Avellino were eliminated. In the semi-finals Cosenza beat Melito 4 to 1 (doubles by Zicarelli, Guzzo and Mundo Francesco plus a penalty converted by the owner of the Melites, the 79 year old Nino Zavettieri) while Palermo Medica prevailed 4 to 3 on penalties against Napoli. Melito lost 7 to 0 to Napoli in the qualifying round, beat Avellino 4 to 2 and drew 2 to 2 with Taranto. The Sicilians: Palermo heals, in addition to the success against Cosenza, they achieved a 0-0 with Flegrea and a 1-1 in the derby with Trinacria. For the latter also a goalless draw with Flegrea.
For the Poule Amatori, a unique match between Bari and Salerno: the Apulians won 4 to 0, thus obtaining the possibility of participating in the Super Cup in December with the finalists of this championship and the team that will win the Italian Cup in September. Like every year, a medical conference was held, with multiple sessions, in the conference room of the Ariston hotel, in Capaccio Paestum. Food supplements in clinical practice were discussed: use in ENT, internal medicine and the osteoarticular system.
