Italian Railway Networkleading company of the Infrastructure Hub of the FS Italiane Group, has concluded the evaluation procedures of the technical-economic offers of the tender for the executive design and implementation of the speeding up of the Lamezia Terme – Settingiano section and the electrification of the Lamezia Terme-Catanzaro Lido section. The Temporary Group of Companies made up of Manelli Impresa, Sposato Costruzioni, Pini Group, STE, STRAFER, SINT was identified as the best bidder. The start of the executive phase now begins.
The speeding up measures will make it possible to reach 140 km/h along the ten kilometers of the Lamezia Terme – Settingiano section. The speeding up will be achieved through three types of interventions: plan-altimetric variants, raising the existing route, route variants on a new site alongside the existing line with some sections in viaduct, including the one on the Cancello torrent. The intervention also includes the electrification of the 43 kilometers of the entire Lamezia Terme – Catanzaro Lido line. with the construction of three electrical substations to support electric traction.
The contract has a value of approximately 165 million euros financed in part with PNRR funds and allows the start of the first of the three functional lots in which the overall investment project for the strengthening of the Lamezia Terme – Catanzaro Lido – Jonica Dorsale connection approved by the Extraordinary Government Commissioner with Ordinance no. 4 of 09/25/2023 is divided. Completion of works is scheduled for 2026.
The interventions, in synergy with other planned projects, will make it possible to improve the offer of railway transport, through the reduction of travel times, the increase in the regularity of railway circulation and the development of further services.
