“Spose, a century of elegance”, in Mirto a journey into the history of the clothes designed by the ancient Sicilian tailors

Thursday 31 July at 9 pm, the splendid Piazza del Duomo of Myrtle (Messina) will turn into an open -air stage for “Brides, a century of elegance”an event that will not be just a parade, but An authentic story of traditions, emotions and culture.

Promoted by Municipality of Mirtochaired by the Mayor Maurizio Zingales and with the support of theRegional Department of Local Autonomies and Public Functionthe event will offer the public a suggestive journey into the history ofwedding dress in Sicily Through the precious collections kept in the Museum of Costume and Sicilian fashion in the Cupane Palace of Mirto.

On stage there will be clothes that speak of eras, love stories and families, from the early twentieth century until the seventies, with an exciting focus on a Piana degli Albani dress dating back to before the 800still never presented and witness of the Arbëreshe tradition.

In particular, the public will be able to admire the popular clothes that were once not only whites, but also colorful, made by the most important Sicilian tailors for the families of the island, testifying to an artisan and cultural heritage that still enchants today.

A special moment will be dedicated to the wedding creations of the famous Mimma Ferraro, known as “A Madama”, a designer born in Vittoria, in the province of Ragusa, but Messina by adoption. Considered a real high fashion pioneer in Sicily, Mimma Ferraro entertained contacts with international style icons such as Coco Chanel, Balenciaga and Diorand he was loved by the bourgeoisie of the time for the refinement of his creations.

The grand finale will celebrate the large signatures that marked the rise of fashion houses in the seventies, revolutionizing the tastes of brides and opening the way to a new concept of “elegance in white”.

The evening will be presented by the journalist Patrizia Casale and coordinated by the architect Giuseppe Miraudodirector of the museum, who for years has been dedicating himself with passion to a precious cultural work, allowing the Palazzo Cupane di Mirto to acquire some of the most representative collections of Italian fashion.

Guest of the evening will be the singer Alessia Di Bellavoice of the Match Music, who together with a band also opened in Sicily some concerts by Riccardo Fogli, rich and poor and sang with Ricki Portera, guitarist of the Stadio and Lucio Dalla, and was a guest of the shows of Salvo La Rosa with Giuseppe Castiglia, Toti and Totino and other comic artists.

“Spose, a century of elegance” promises to be a unique event, capable of exciting and reviving the history and identity of our land through the most iconic dress in the life of every woman: the wedding dress!
