The sporting season of the ASD Tropheum Karate Club continues with very important results, protagonist at the Under 12 Karate Gran Prix, an event organized by the Calabria Regional Committee – Karate Sector and also open to Promotion Bodies affiliated with FIJLKAM. The event took place on Sunday 8 March 2026 at the PalaValentia in Vibo Valentia, attracting young athletes born in 2015 and 2016, engaged in the Kata and Kumite specialties, divided by grade and weight category.
The Tropean club shone in all categories, bringing all the competing athletes to the podium and winning a total of seven medals, confirming the excellent work done by maestro Antonio La Torre, IV Dan.
In the higher grade categories, the performance of Chloe Tavella stands out, dominating the 37 kg women’s Kumite. The athlete took first place by going through the quarterfinals, semi-finals and finals with determination in a direct elimination draw.
Silver instead for Marialaura Ortelio, competing in the women’s Kumite +47 kg. In a particularly balanced round-robin group, Ortelio finished in second place, showing excellent tactical management and continuity.
In the men’s Kata +42 kg, Joseph Barritta performed the Bassai-dai with precision, obtaining third place in a group of nine athletes and taking home a well-deserved bronze medal.
Brilliant performance also for Viviana Costanzo, protagonist of a day to remember. In the 32 kg Kumite she took first place in a round-robin group of four athletes, imposing herself with confidence. Not only that, Costanzo also obtained bronze in Kata, performing Heian Nidan with good technique and concentration.
In the initial grade categories, Amelia Ostone confirmed the growth of the Tropean nursery. In the 32 kg Kumite he reached second place, while in the Kata, performing Heian Yondan, he took third place in a round-robin group, ending the day with a silver and a bronze.
With seven medals overall and all the athletes on the podium, the ASD Tropheum Karate Club returns from Vibo Valentia with a highly prestigious result. For the young class of 2015–2016, led by maestro Antonio La Torre, it is a high-level training experience, useful for enriching the technical background and consolidating the presence of the club in the regional FIJLKAM competitions.
The season continues with enthusiasm and ambition, thanks to a young group but already capable of standing out for commitment, discipline and sporting spirit.
