Our goal is to increase the presence of Italian fiction translated into English in the United States, where the share of foreign literature still remains very limited – said Claudio Pagliara, director ofItalian Cultural Institute of New York – . SuperBook is a new project in many respects: it is a “prize of prizes”, symbolically inspired by the Super Bowl model. We are convinced that a jury rooted in the United States and capable of reading in Italian is in the ideal position to identify the book with the greatest possibility of establishing itself in the American market.”
The authors in competition are: Andrea Bajani, «L’anniversario» (Feltrinelli); Nicolò Cavallaro, «The llama of Alabama» (Hacca Edizioni); Teresa Ciabatti, «Donnaregina» (Mondadori); Nicola H. Cosentino, «There is a lot of hope (but none for us)» (Guanda); Diego De Silva, «The closing credits of a life together» (Einaudi); the Gazzetta journalist Anna Mallamo, «I’ll see in the dark» (Einaudi); Wanda Marasco, «With our backs to this world» (Neri Pozza); Leonardo San Pietro, «Party with cassowary» (Sellerio)
The SuperBook has received financial support from CEPELL and is promoted with the support of the Italian Publishers Association and the Turin International Book Fair. The eight authors will have a real literary marathon at the Italian Cultural Institute in New York. The winner of the SuperBook will be awarded a prize of $10,000, intended to support the translation into English and the promotion of the work in the United States.
