«Reggio pays for the defect of the location», Mimmo Fedele used to say, one of the last “executioners who quit” and already an appreciated trade unionist of the Ugl. And our “national-popular” philosopher explained that precisely because of the defect in the location, every event that happens in Reggio acquires such an echo and emphasis that it instills fear in the whole of Italy. A concept that appeared a “little” exaggerated and yet the national attention that the next by-elections of the Calabria 05 constituency are receiving to choose who will fill the seat in Montecitorio vacated by the Hon. Francesco Cannizzaro, forcefully reiterates “the defect of the location” of Reggio. In fact, national politics had never been so interested in such a peripheral and marginal strip of territory. And the “credit” this time must be ascribed entirely to General Roberto Vanncci and his National Future, which by lining up further to the right than the centre-right is viewed with suspicion both by the centre-left (as is natural) and by the centre-right of the Government itself.
