A strange, short and probably unexpected electoral campaign comes to life. The by-elections for the Chamber, aimed at assigning the seat left by Mayor Cannizzaro, did not seem like an obvious step until a few weeks ago: issues of timing and technicalities seemed to distance the polls. And yet here we are, rushing towards the appointment on 27 and 28 September. Almost inevitably there will be very little talk about programs, in a sprint made more of slogans and loyalty to party symbols than real content. The “direct dialogue” with voters is one of the elements on which all four candidates seem to focus. On the other hand, whoever is elected will remain in the Chamber for a maximum of one year, barring early dissolution, as the expiry of the Meloni government’s mandate is set for October 2027.
Well says Frank Benedetto, candidate of the centre-left, when he brands it “unrealistic” to prepare a program for the few months of the national legislature that remain. And in the meantime the initiatives follow one another: Benedetto himself announces the opening of the committee in Corso Garibaldi “a point of reference for the community” for Wednesday 9th at 7.30pm.
On the centre-right front, today at 11am, in the “F. Monteleone” room of the Regional Council, the press conference to present the candidate Fabio Roscioli is scheduled. “Reggio present – Dialogue that counts” is the slogan chosen for the event which will involve the highest regional representatives of Forza Italia, Fratelli d’Italia, Lega, Noi Moderati and UDC.
