«Yes, but I believe that our mission is to” build “new spectators, to widen listening. The music of Bellini, Rossini, Puccini in an apparently simpler way will be followed: the formats do not take value to music. And there will also be “Cavalleria Rusticana” ».

“Yes, it’s a bit true. We must not forget that the ancient theater is large to fill and certain productions of the past are no longer possible. There is a ballet, classic, but also shows related to tango or Afro music, which also have a popular intent. Something prose will be in the “aperitifs” in the Congress Palace. The region rightly aims to increase Syracuse as theater dedicated to prose and Taormina as theater dedicated to music. It seems to me an interesting idea ».

«I think it’s already very demanding. And then I find it strange to choose yourself for a production. But I will do one thing: at the Palazzo dei Congressi I will accompany the show “challenges. Soprano vsolo” on the plan ».

«The correct choice of the Italian language is” director “if we talk about a woman. The question has been politicized, which instead is only grammatical. Saying “director” about a woman is simply a mistake ».
She was the first woman to direct the Berliner Simphoniker, the Orchestra of the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma and other prestigious complexes. Are you proud of it?
«In a personal sense I answer yes, I have been directing for 25 years and I am happy to have reached these goals. But at the same time it makes me an impression that it should also be said “first director” or “first rector”. In my sector the women who work are just 4% of the total. However, it is positive that a path has started to beat, which must be enlarged ».
She is also a pianist. What do you think of your colleagues who perform with provocative clothes?
«They are personal choices that I do not share. The concert is a ritual and you participate as a priest on the altar. The protagonist is music, everything else is out of place, even if you play very well. When I direct, I choose measured gestures because attention has to go only to music. I do not carry the loose hair to prevent them from moving together with my gesture ».
Are your contaminations also a consequence of being the wife of Rocker Piero Pelù?
«I have always believed in music without gender differences. I think writing the song that wins in Sanremo is difficult to write a work. At very high levels, everything is great music. I admire jazz pianists, capable of incredible things. Music must always avoid definitions and borders ».
