The pediatric cardiac surgery of the San Vincenzo hospital in Taormina must remain where it is. This is the strong and clear message launched by Uil and Uil Fpl of Messina, who launched a trade union assembly for Tuesday 16 September 2025, at 10.30 am, right inside the Taorminese hospital.

The union is decisively opposed to the transfer project of the Alla Papardo di Messina department, calling it “a short -sighted and harmful choice”. Taormina’s pediatric cardiac surgery underline the promoters, represents a center of excellence at regional and Mediterranean level, the result of years of investments, professionalism and commitment.

According to Uil and Uil Fpl, the dismantling of the department would risk compromising not only the quality and timeliness of the treatments, but also to disperse a unique heritage of skills. “Moving the CCPM from Taormina would mean creating enormous inconveniences for small patients and their families, with serious repercussions on the health, economic and employment level” said General Secretaries Ivan Tripodi and Livio Andronico.

The union asks the national and regional governments to abandon any hypothesis of closing or transfer, instead starting a discussion table to strengthen and enhance the center. “Our battle is to guarantee life -saving care and concrete answers to the real needs of children and their families” reiterate the trade unionists in view of the Tuesday assembly.
