A TG3 crew was attacked in Lebanon, near Sidon. The local driver had a heart attack and died. Tg3 reports this in its 12pm edition, reporting the story of correspondent Lucia Goracci who states that first an armed man and then a group of people approached and began to threaten journalists. At that point the driver fell ill and died despite cardiac massage. The fixer had reported the presence of the journalists to Hezbollah.
“It was 9 this morning – reported live the journalist Lucia Goracci, sent to the field in Lebanon together with the operator Marco Nicois, who remained unharmed – and we were filming in Jiyeh, where our stringer had reported our presence We were working without problems, people were talking to us. Then a man appeared and went towards Nicois trying to take the camera away from him. We got back into the car ready to leave quickly, but other men arrived and started pushing us the car. The man from before tried to throw a large stone at us. There were those who held him back and those who encouraged him. We left quickly, in the car, it seemed that they were chasing us. When Ahmad stopped at a petrol station now outside Ghazieh, the man came at us, took the keys from Ahmad, tried to break Marco’s camera by entering through the open windows, while no one came to help us”.
“When Ahmad tried to reassure him by getting out of the car – continues Goracci’s story – that’s when he collapsed to the ground. We immediately called for help, the ambulance arrived, we followed it. Unfortunately, when we when we reached them they told us that he had died after long attempts to resuscitate him.” The crew proceeded with all the permits in order from the local authorities. The attackers would have chased the envoys’ car on a motorbike.
