Bathing beaches ready, tourists arriving, but concessions still stuck in the municipal offices… Briatico starts with a paradox. The result? Kidnappings, emptied beaches and angry operators. Administrative delays would have blocked state concessions, but on Friday the seizures of beaches without authorization began by the Carabinieri.
Blitz in Sant’Irene: equipment and bare beaches removed
And so, in the middle of summer, a clean slate was made: in the Sant’Irene area, today the beaches appear bare; deckchairs and umbrellas had already been installed, but from Friday everything was removed, due to the lack of temporary maritime state concessions; the release of which is the prerogative of the Briatise institution. A delay that now weighs not only on managers, but also on employees.
Times of bureaucracy: authorizations only after 14 July
The public notice was published once the season had already started and the expression of interest will remain open until 13 July. Only from the 14th onwards, after the final checks, will authorizations be issued… In the meantime, various structures and villages had already assembled the equipment to move forward; but, rightly, the absence of the authorization triggered checks and inevitable consequences for the occupation, which currently appears to be abusive.
The protest of the operators and the infrastructure issue
The owners, indignant, blame the slowness of the administrative machinery for the situation. Slowness that is compromising the season, already put to the test by other inefficiencies: the road to the pier has been closed since February due to falling debris, but the safety measures are not yet completed.

And the construction site of the new pier? Stopped for days, after months of “stop and go” due to bad weather. A series of delays which, added together, risk transforming one of the most evocative locations on the coast into a symbol of inefficiency…
