The Chamber approves the establishment of Enzo Tortora day to commemorate the victims of judicial errors.
There were 178 votes in favour, but the noise was made by the 92 abstentions, coming from the ranks of the Democratic Party, the 5 Star Movement and the Green and Left Alliance. The date chosen by the proposal presented by Italia Viva MP Davide Faraone is not accidental: 17 June, the day on which the very popular Portobello host was arrested in 1983, starting his judicial ordeal. After the approval from the Montecitorio chamber, the final approval from the Senate is awaited: a speech postponed until the resumption of parliamentary work in September. The majority rejoices, defending the importance of the proposal for the entire duration of the explanations of vote: “Since 1992 almost 950 innocent people have been deprived of their freedom every year – explains the leader of Noi Moderates Maurizio Lupi. For them and their families we vote in favor of this bill”.
“Bad justice exists and ruins the lives of the people who are victims of it”, comments Forzista group leader Enrico Costa. During the examination of the agendas, IV’s proposal to engage the government on the issue of the legal responsibility of magistrates was also approved. On the subject, Costa announces a FI plan “to guarantee citizens compensation for damages in cases of bad justice”.
It is still the group leader of Forza Italia who leads the protests against the abstention of M5S, Pd and Avs, which he defined as “a slap in the face” to the victims of judicial errors. “They should go and explain this choice – attacks Costa – to 100 thousand innocent people who have unjustly lost their freedom”. A decision also contested by the president of the Justice Observatory of the Einaudi Foundation Gian Domenico Caiazza, who speaks of a “promissory note” to be “paid to the political leadership of ANM for the victory of the No”. The opposition’s decision is motivated by the absence “of a real discussion in the Commission”, as the MP Rachele Scarpa explains during the explanations of vote.
