The carabinieri of the Operational Section of the Compagnia di Roccella Jonica (RC) carried out a decree of detention of suspect of crime issued by the Public Prosecutor of Locri, against a man of Indian nationality, accused of having killed a compatriot following a brutal aggression.
The discovery of the corpse
The corpse had been found in the very early morning of 20 August last, abandoned in the alleys of the historic center of Gioiosa Ionica. Scene that, in the torrid summer days, had aroused particular hype: the corpse, in fact, in an advanced state of decomposition, had been found completely wrapped in a sheet and placed on the pavement close to numerous homes.
The identification of the victim
The investigations, coordinated by the Public Prosecutor of Locri, directed by Giuseppe Casciaro, proved to be particularly complex, having primarily made it necessary to proceed with the identification of the victim, not recognizable following the dating date of the death. In this sense, the information heritage of the local Carabinieri station is fundamental which, only on the basis of some tattoos, managed to reach the identity of the man, known to the police forces, and also to his circle of knowledge.
The development of investigations
The timely investigative activity carried out, by the delegation of the Prosecutor, by the Operational Section of Roccella Ionica, supported by the in -depth and qualified contribution of the RIS of Messina, as well as by the staff of the SIS of the Provincial Command of Reggio Calabria and the Investigative Unit of Locri has made it possible to acquire a plurality of elements against the firm, first of all the result of the accurate inspection carried out on the offender of the crime: Apparently abandoned where, in all likelihood, the victim had for some time found refuge, perhaps together with his fellow countryman stopped.
The investigative analysis of the crime scene
The results presented to the Prosecutor’s Office were enriched thanks to the silent narrative offered by the progressive analysis of the crime place, indicative of particular heinousness: the elements collected, placed in the system with the scrupulous analysis of video surveillance systems, therefore allowed to ascertain that the suspect was on the crime scene in situations compatible with the murder.
Disagreements against the background of the crime
The tight investigations also allowed to ascertain that, just a few days before the foundation of the corpse, another subject of Indian nationality had been rescued by health personnel in the historic center of Gioiosa Ionica. The attention of the investigators and the prosecutor was therefore focused on this vein, allowing to verify, after in -depth investigations, the identity of the rescue man, who in the past had already had several disagreements with the victim.
The search for the suspect
Moreover, starting from the discovery of the corpse, the main suspect had made himself unavailable and had left the municipality of Gioiosa Ionica. Thanks to the tight research carried out by the Operational Section of the Roccella Jonica Company, he was finally identified in Siderno, where he had found temporary refuge. At that moment the detention ordered by the Judicial Authority of Locri was triggered.
Investigations continue to clarify the complete picture
Under the direction of the Prosecutor of Locri, investigators are now trying to collect further elements aimed at understanding in detail the dynamics of the effective murder and to verify any third party responsibilities. Meanwhile, the arrested person will remain available to the judicial authority.
